Resonance Installation

One of my projects as part of the Information Experience Design coursework at the RCA this year was a project in collaboration with my classmate John-Michael Parry where we were exploring the outer reaches of sound terror and the extreme effects of sound frequency on the body. Using Max MSP and an Arduino with a distance sensor attached to it, we mapped the users proximity to a white monolithic plinth at the end of the room so that the frequency rose higher and higher the closer you approached the plinth. As the user walked along the marked line on the floor, a loud rumbling bass rose to a penetrating and painful high pitch whine synchronised with strobing lights that were also generated in Max MSP and projected onto the ceiling.
